The Creative Table exists to...

Discover what happens when we invite neighbors to sit and create at a shared table,

Make visible, share and celebrate the professional artistry and the hidden stories of our community,

Nurture the conditions to collectively transform a shared table into the place we call home.

Who we are

The Creative Table is a grassroots movement born from a simple garden table in Hackney. We didn’t start with a strategic plan; we started with a few immigrant artist friends who needed a place to belong and a corner to share the quiet weight of navigating a new life.

As our neighbors began to pull up chairs, what was a small gathering grew into a vibrant, living community. Led by One4All CIC, we transform borrowed cafe gardens, library rooms, and community halls into ‘Creative Tables’—spaces where people feel safe enough to come together, share a pot of tea, and create. We believe that while our languages may be different, our brushes and clay speak the same tongue.

We believe that a table isn't just furniture; it’s a dedicated space where the word "stranger" dissolves. By bringing together immigrant artists and local residents, we create a living bridge between diverse cultures, ensuring that every neighbor has a dignified role in our collective story. We benefit from a network of friends and advisors who share their expertise to help us grow, ensuring that every project we deliver is rooted in cultural equity and community care.

We are currently thinking about how a shared creative task can turn a street of strangers into a community of neighbors...

We are currently thinking about how to anchor our shared table as a permanent sanctuary of belonging for the whole community...

Our Approach:

The Creative Cycle

We offer a peer-led sanctuary where creativity serves as a bridge for connection, mindfulness, and professional growth. We don't limit our table to a single medium; we embrace the diverse skills of our community.

  • Weekly Creative Sessions: We provide a steady, recurring anchor for the neighborhood. Around our table, participants engage in diverse creative projects that evolve naturally as confidence and friendships grow.

  • A Structure for Wellbeing: Our sessions are designed for both prevention and recovery. The creative process enables participants to find a sense of agency and meaning in an environment where every contribution is valued.

  • Professional Mentorship: We bridge the gap between "making" and "earning." By providing a platform for professional visibility, we help immigrant artists transform their lifelong craft into a sustainable local presence.

  • The Living Lab: We want to move from the quiet of borrowed rooms to a permanent High-Street Hub. A dedicated space where "finding meaning again" is a shared journey, and every invisible voice finds its permanent seat.

"We have the history. We have the community. We are now looking for the space to make it permanent."

Our Values

Creativity: We believe that the act of making belongs to everyone, everywhere.

Wellbeing: We use regular creative practice as a tool for health, confidence, and mindfulness.

Inclusivity: We welcome every neighbor to pull up a chair and share their unique imagination.

Connection: We foster the professional and personal networks that turn "strangers" into a community.

Permanence: We are committed to staying put and building deep roots in the neighborhood we call home.

We are working towards a future in which:

Everyone has a permanent seat at the table to discover creative solutions and realise their professional ambitions. Through open collaboration, we move beyond being "newcomers" to becoming confident contributors, valuing each other’s unique imaginations and skills.

A future alive with genuine, generous invitations to celebrate collective achievements without hierarchy—a neighborhood where no one is invisible, and everyone is home.

We do this by: Consistently anchoring… deeply listening… intentionally placing… quietly connecting… because our shared belonging depends on it.
